Are one day bathroom remodels too good to be true?
Have you ever seen those commercials promising a complete bathroom remodel in just one day? It sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? And it probably is. Here’s what you need to know.
Companies advertise one-day remodels, promising a brand-new bathroom when you return home at the end of the day. While it sounds amazing, the reality is much more complex. Most one-day remodels involve installing cheap plastic walls over your existing ones, not a full remodel. This quick fix might look refreshed but doesn’t address underlying issues or provide long-term solutions.
A proper bathroom remodel requires multiple trades:
Plumber: Essential for any plumbing changes, requiring a state license, permit, and inspection.
Electrician: Needed for electrical work, also requiring a license and inspection.
Drywaller and Painter: For finishing touches.
Carpenter and Tile Installer: For structural and aesthetic work.
Permits and inspections ensure the work meets safety standards. Without them, you risk subpar work that could cause significant problems later. And that cheap plastic wall they installed just put an extra barrier in between you and any potential problems.
A realistic timeline for a complete bathroom remodel is around 10 days, maybe less. This includes full demolition and preparation for plumbing inspection, the actual plumbing work, electrical work, drywall, flooring, tiling, and the inspection.
When hiring a remodeler, always ask:
Are you pulling a permit?
Will the work be inspected?
Can I keep a copy of the inspection approval (green tag)?
The answer to all of these questions should be “yes.”
Beware of companies promising a one-day remodel. Proper remodeling takes time and requires licensed professionals to ensure the job is done right. Always verify that the necessary permits and inspections are part of the process. While those one day “remodels” may sound amazing, when it comes to your home, make sure you have professionals who know how to do it right each and every time.
