IS the future of skilled trades in danger?

If you haven’t heard of AI, have you been living under a rock? It’s a catalyst for the writer strikes in Hollywood, and a threat to creative jobs everywhere.

My team even uses AI to help with writing descriptions, ideas, and even blogs like these. But what’s crazy is that if you rewind to just 1 year ago - AI wasn’t everywhere like it is today, and it was predicted that AI would first take the manual labor jobs before it could ever touch human creativity - yet it did the exact opposite. All forms of creative media are being threatened and replaced by things like ChatGPT. We are in a revolution of sorts, like when the computer first came out as a big box yet it now fits inside your pocket. Ai will gradually be apart of everything in every job in my opinion.

But can it take your job as a tradesperson? The real answer is maybe. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But maybe someday. But as of the foreseeable future, we need real epople to diagnose problems and talk to customers. This is not going away soon because AI can’t yet solve these nuanced problems. Picture a day in the future where someone can wear goggles that tell them what a problem is and how to fix it - it’ll still take skill and experience to do the job right.

I think skilled trades aren’t going anywhere, and as long as you’re personable, work hard, and never stop educating yourself - you’re gonna be just fine.
