I Went to the BIGGEST Trade Show in the U.S.

Attending a major construction industry trade show can feel like stepping into a massive, multi-day festival of innovation. At once, you meet fellow professionals, discover new products, and see firsthand the trends that will shape future building and remodeling. Recently, I traveled to Las Vegas for the International Builders’ Show (IBS) – held alongside the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), the National Home Builders Association event, and the International Hardware Show. It all happened under one roof (well, several roofs, actually) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, making for one incredible whirlwind of construction and design.

Why Attend a Trade Show Like IBS/KBIS

• Comprehensive Industry Insight: Builders, remodelers, plumbers, electricians, HVAC pros, and designers gather in one place. You get a bird’s-eye view of what’s changing in home construction.
• Hands-On Demos: There’s no substitute for physically testing out new tools and fixtures. You can open cabinets, operate faucets, and even assemble push-to-connect fittings right at the exhibitor’s booth.
• Education and Networking: Vendors and associations often host mini-seminars or live demos. You get to swap stories and tips with pros from across the country.
• Tech Innovations: From “smart” fixtures to advanced water filtration, the technology on display can broaden your perspective and inspire new offerings for customers.

My Reason for Being There

I primarily attended as a speaker in the booth of QuickFitting – a company that makes push-to-connect fittings strong enough to hold up under intense testing. Speaking in their booth let me meet many plumbers, builders, and curious onlookers who either already used push fittings or were hearing about them for the first time. Sharing how these fittings provide a simpler, secure way to join pipes (and do so with warranties up to 75 years) was a highlight of my time on the show floor.

The Scope of the Event

The Las Vegas Convention Center has multiple halls (South, Central, North, and the newly expanded West). Each one hosts a myriad of exhibitors. For IBS/KBIS specifically, you might clock 20+ miles of walking across three days just trying to see all the booths. It can be overwhelming, which is why planning who you want to visit, what demos you want to catch, and how you’ll spend each day is essential.

What Stood Out

• Emerging Tech: Smart home integration continued to be a major theme, with connected appliances and voice-controlled fixtures.
• Water Efficiency: Many manufacturers highlighted low-flow or dual-flush systems, relevant for plumbers focusing on eco-friendly upgrades.
• Push-to-Connect Solutions: QuickFitting’s booth drew crowds by demonstrating how easily push fittings can be installed and removed – an eye-opener for both DIYers and seasoned tradespeople.
• Education Sessions: Panels covering topics from “healthy homes” to new regulations in construction and design. Great places to glean updates on codes, materials, and best practices.

Side Trip to Another Conference

Right after IBS, I hopped to Atlanta for the AHR Expo (focusing on HVAC and refrigeration). That show is also a prime opportunity for plumbing pros looking to expand into mechanical systems or who just want to keep current on cross-over technologies. The back-to-back conferences definitely tested my stamina, but I returned with fresh connections and potential collaborations.

Why QuickFitting

Partnering with QuickFitting felt like a natural fit because:
• Their fittings consistently pass or exceed rigorous testing.
• The ease of connection speeds up many jobs, from capping lines to new fixture installs.
• Their 75-year warranty is unmatched in the push-to-connect space.
• Their straightforward release mechanism helps avoid the frustration of wrestling with removal tools.

Making the Most of Trade Shows

• Plan Ahead: If you’re a plumber, decide which product demos matter most. Check exhibitor maps to mark must-see stops.
• Wear Comfortable Shoes: You’ll walk miles – guaranteed.
• Talk to Exhibitors: Don’t just grab pamphlets. Engage, ask detailed questions about new products, and see if they offer on-site training or discounts.
• Follow Up: Collect business cards, scan QR codes, and organize them afterward. It’s easy to forget who said what, but these contacts can be gold for your business.

Final Thoughts

Large trade shows like IBS, KBIS, and others can open your eyes to new revenue streams, technologies, and partnerships. They also remind you how vast and collaborative the construction field can be. Whether you’re exploring plumbing fixtures, advanced building materials, or the next wave of design trends, having this many exhibitors under one roof is a unique opportunity. If you’re considering investing in push fittings or simply want to see the cutting edge of your trade, make a plan to attend one of these shows. The connections and product insights are well worth the journey.
