3 easy steps to fix a leaky pipe
Hey folks! Today, I’m going to walk you through three simple steps to fix a leaking pipe. But before I get into it, I want to stress that this product I’m using today is a temporary fix, not a permanent solution. This is the kind of solution you need when you need to stop a leak right now, but your plumber isn’t available right away to come do a permanent fix.
Step 1: Shut Off the Water
First things first, you’ve got to stop the water flow. Turn off the water either at the meter or the valve box in your house. This is crucial to prevent further damage and to make the repair process easier.
Step 2: Prepare the Area
Next, make sure you have enough space to work. Cut a hole in the drywall if necessary, big enough to get your tools in there. You might already have a hole due to the water damage from the leak, so just open it up a bit more if needed.
Step 3: Apply the Repair Clamp
Now, this fix is done by using what’s called a repair clamp. This clamp has a thick rubber gasket inside and a stainless steel jacket outside. So grab your repair clamp. Slide the clamp over the pipe, making sure it covers the leak completely. Then push the bolts into place until they lock. Then slide the clamp down the pipe until the rubber gasket is covering the leak. I then used my Milwaukee fuel impact wrench to tighten the bolts evenly on both sides. Tighten it just a little bit on each side, going back and forth until you get a snug fit around the pipe.
Once everything is in place, turn the water back on and check for any leaks. If done correctly, this should hold until you can get a professional plumber to make a permanent fix.
And that’s it. It’s that easy. This is a simple thing just about any homeowner can do. Now you’ve just bought yourself some time so you can find the right plumber to come fix the pipe the right way.
